As Seen on the TODAY Show: How Heidi is Giving Clinicians Their Time Back

Clinicians are running out of time in Australia’s healthcare system. On Sunday’s episode of The TODAY Show, viewers were given a behind-the-scenes look at how Heidi is helping to change that, one consult at a time.
Watch the segment below featuring Dr. Catherine Skellern from Queensland Children’s Hospital, and our CEO and Co-Founder Dr. Tom Kelly.
"Like night and day": A clinician's experience with Heidi
Dr. Catherine Skellern, a developmental paediatrician at Queensland Children’s Hospital, described the toll of clinical documentation on her practice.
“Literally, clinicians are often feeling like they’re drowning in paperwork… Heidi has had a substantial impact on how I feel about my work.”
She shared how using Heidi has given her time back in her day, and more than that, has helped her reconnect with why she became a doctor:
“It’s enabled me to return to what made me want to be a doctor in the first place. To communicate, to care about my patients, to make good decisions.”
Built by clinicians, for clinicians
Appearing alongside Catherine was Dr. Tom Kelly, Heidi’s CEO, and a former hospital doctor who knows this pain first-hand.
“You’re meant to ask the right questions, think through the diagnosis, and type everything down while the patient is sitting in front of you. It’s near impossible.”
Heidi solves this by listening to the consultation, capturing all the details, and creating documentation automatically. The result? Time saved, burnout reduced, and better care delivered to the patient.
A young company, a growing impact
Heidi is just 18 months old, but already supports over 2 million consults every week across Australia, the UK, Canada, the US, and beyond. That includes emergency departments, outpatient clinics, and general practices.
“It’s an amazing Australian story,” said Tom on air. “From Royal Melbourne to hospitals around the world.”
Safety, trust, and the highest standards
In the segment, Dr. Kelly also addressed an important question: how does Heidi protect patient privacy?
“We built this with the highest standards of compliance and consent, the same level of security used by the Australian Defence Force and major hospitals. This is healthcare-grade infrastructure, built by clinicians who understand the stakes.”
Our thanks
We’re so proud to partner with Queensland Children’s Hospital and are grateful to Dr. Catherine Skellern for sharing her story with such clarity and heart.
If you’re a clinician still buried in documentation, know this: you’re not alone, and it doesn’t have to be this way.
Heidi gives you time to care.
And we’re just getting started.
