Issue: Right undescended testis - for orchiopexy Thank you for asking me to see John Doe regarding undescended testes. We discussed the main issues around malignancy and early detection by palpation, and fertility preservation. We discussed the operation: day procedure under general anaesthetic, examination under anaesthesia 1. If right testis palpable in groin: then groin incision to free the testis from surrounding structures, enable length to tunnel it into the scrotum and fixate it with sutures. 2. If not palpable, then laparoscopy to find the testis within the abdomen a: If within the abdomen, then a 2 stage operation (3-6 months apart) to bring the testis down into the scrotum (both laparoscopic) b: If within the groin, the bring down as in step 1 c: If atrophic then remove remnant either through groin or scrotum All sutures are dissolvable, and the dressings can be removed after a week. Bathing can commence the day after surgery. In older children school can resume after 5-7 days and sports after 2-3 weeks. Risks include bleeding, bruising, swelling, infection and rarely damage to the testis and cord structures. Further information can be found at https://betterkids.com.au/project/undescended-testis/
