Mid Level AI Models Engineer
Who We Are
Healthcare needs a better rhythm: one that keeps care continuous and deeply human. Heidi is building an AI Care Partner that works alongside clinicians to make that possible.
We’re a team of doctors, engineers, designers, researchers, and creatives building tools that help clinicians stay focused on what matters most: their patients.
In just 18 months, Heidi has given back more than 18 million hours to healthcare professionals — supporting 73 million patient visits in 116 countries. Today, more than two million patient visits each week are powered by Heidi worldwide.
Backed by nearly $100 million in funding, we’re growing in the US, UK, Canada, and Europe, partnering with leading health systems including the NHS, Beth Israel Lahey Health, and Monash Health.
The Role
Working closely with our Engineering Manager, you’ll be an AI Model Engineer on the Model Platform team. You are a core contributor to advancing the capabilities of our foundational models.
Your mission is to apply your deep technical expertise to run experiments, implement cutting-edge fine-tuning techniques (SFT, RLFT), and systematically improve the performance, safety, and efficiency of our LLMs.
What you’ll do:
Own Model Fine-Tuning Cycles: Independently run end-to-end fine-tuning experiments, from data curation and setup to analysis and reporting.
Partner with product, medical knowledge and design teams to automate prompt engineering, build agentic AI, create model evaluation frameworks.
Build cutting-edge LLM features within Heidi using the latest tools and frameworks
Implement Advanced Techniques: Implement and adapt state-of-the-art algorithms from research papers to solve specific product challenges.
Deep-Dive Model Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of model behaviour, identifying failure modes and proposing data- or algorithm-based solutions.
Contribute to Core Infrastructure: Help build and improve the core training and experimentation infrastructure to increase research velocity.
What we will look for:
You have hands-on experience training and fine-tuning large-scale language models in a professional or advanced academic setting.
You can optimise AI features for accuracy, latency, scalability, and cost with AI agent design & fine-tuning.
You’ve shipped AI and LLM-powered features to real users in a production environment.
You have strong programming skills in Python and deep expertise with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
You possess a strong intuition for machine learning and can debug and solve challenging problems in a complex model codebase.
You have a strong background in statistics and a rigorous, data-driven approach to experimentation.
Bonus:
A strong publication record in top-tier AI conferences.
Experience building and leading a research-focused team.
Expertise in reinforcement learning or data-centric AI.
The way we work
1. Build to Last
We design for safety and reliability so clinicians, patients, and our teams can trust what we build every day.
2. Own Your Practice
Ideas rise on merit, not title, and everyone shares responsibility for the standards we set together.
3. Move Fast, Stay Steady
We move quickly but never at the cost of trust. Progress only matters if people can depend on what we make.
4. Make Others Better
Honest feedback, steady support, and shared growth keep our teams improving together.
