New NHS guidance on AI scribes: What it means for you

If you’re here, you’ve likely seen the latest NHS England guidance on using AI-enabled ambient scribing products - and might be wondering what does it actually mean for you?

Well, you came to the right place. Here’s a handy breakdown of what this guidance involves, alongside practical tips for healthcare providers - and importantly, how Heidi supports you every step of the way.

Quick background

On 27th April 2025, the Department of Health and Social Care and The Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP announced:

“Through its Plan for Change the government is getting the NHS back on its feet and slashing waiting lists. Guidance published today will encourage the use of these products [i.e. ambient AI medical scribes] - which use speech technologies and generative AI to convert spoken words into structured medical notes and letters - across a range of primary and secondary care settings, including hospitals and GP surgeries.”

We wholeheartedly welcome the government's commitment and the record £26 billion investment into the NHS and social care. We are proud to work with pioneers like the Jean Bishop Centre,  featured in the press release, and excited to support more NHS teams in unlocking the benefits of AI.

Each week, Heidi supports over 285,000 patient consults across the UK, proving that when healthcare technology is thoughtfully implemented, clinicians, and patients, win.

Guidance breakdown

Here's an approachable breakdown of what this guidance involves:
