Setting up the Best Practice Integration

Note: You must be on a Heidi Together tier in order to use the Best Practice integration (30 day free trial available).

In Best Practice:

1. Enable Heidi as a third party integration in your Best Practice software:

  • In Best Practice click Setup → click Configuration → click Database → click Setup third party integrations

  • If you can’t see this option, contact your practice manager for access

  • Select Heidi from the list and ensure the checkbox is ticked

2. Find your Best Practice Site ID

  • From the main Best Practice screen → click Help → click About → site ID is displayed in the bottom left of the screen.

3. Get the GUID and enter it:

The Halo GUID serves as the unique identifier for each practice server with Halo Link installed within Halo Connect.

On the Bp Premier database server:

  1. Search for 'registry editor' or 'regedit' in the Windows search bar and click on the search result. The Windows Registry Editor will appear.

  2. Navigate to the following entry:

    1. Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Halo Connect\Halo Link

  3. Locate the HaloGuids and record the value that appears in the data field.

TIP Use the Snipping Tool to take a screenshot of the Halo Connect settings for future reference.

In Heidi:

1. Navigate to the Integrations tab on the left hand side panel

2. Select Best Practice from the drop down

  • If you are not on the correct tier, you will be prompted to upgrade here

3. Enter the site ID and press "Connect to Clinic"

  • You will see a prompt with your clinic name asking you to confirm it is the correct clinic. If it is, press yes, if not press no and double check your site ID was entered correctly.

4. Enter the GUID

5. Enter your client ID

  • You can search for this directly in Heidi by entering your name or email address into the Client ID field

  • Select your name from the list and press connect integration

6. Once set up, you will see a success message saying that the integration is connected

  • If you see an error message, try the process again, contact your clinic administrator or contact us.

Using the Best Practice Integration

Selecting a patient

  1. View your appointment book

    1. Open the Sessions panel on the LHS menu

    2. Within the Sessions panel, select the Schedule tab

    3. Select the desired day by clicking the Calendar icon (it will default to showing today's sessions)

    4. View the appointments booked for the day

    5. Select the correct patient

  • Schedule will automatically import all of the sessions from your calendar in Best Practice directly into Heidi in the order that they are happening. If you think sessions are missing, you can press the refresh button in the top row of the schedule section.

  • Instead of clicking on “new session”, click on a patient from the schedule to begin their session and have it linked to Best Practice. The patient’s name, age and gender will be displayed in the patient details section in the top left corner.

Getting notes into Best Practice

  • Complete your session on Heidi like normal, then when you’re finished with your note, you can copy your note across to your Best Practice software.

What is the GUID?

To find your GUID, which is not to be confused with the Site ID visible in Best Practice, follow the steps above, if you have issues finding the GUID you may need to reach out to the Best Practice team to find your GUID.
