Issue: right undescended testis - for orchiopexy Thank you for asking me to see John Doe regarding undescended testes. I agree the right testis is high, palpable in the groin. The left testis is within the scrotum. We discussed the main issues around malignancy and early detection by palpation, and fertility preservation. We discussed the operation: day procedure under general anaesthetic, groin incision to free the testis from surrounding structures, enable length to tunnel it into the scrotum and fixate it with sutures. All sutures are dissolvable, and the dressings can be removed after a week. Bathing can commence the day after surgery. Daycare / School can resume after 5-7 days and sports after 2-3 weeks. Risks include bleeding, bruising, swelling, infection and rarely damage to the testis and cord structures. Recurrence of a high testis is also rarely possible, requiring further intervention.
