During our discussion, we talked about ways to manage your Type 2 Diabetes through diet. This means focusing on foods that help keep your blood sugar stable and improve your overall health. It is important to reduce your intake of sugary drinks and processed foods, and to increase your consumption of fibre-rich fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. If applicable, mention treatments, lifestyle adjustments, or monitoring required. We discussed the 'plate method' for meal planning.
2. Incorporating Regular Physical Activity
We also spoke about the benefits of incorporating regular physical activity into your routine. This relates to improving your cardiovascular health, managing your weight, and helping with blood sugar control. You may notice increased energy levels and improved mood, and you should aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity most days of the week, such as brisk walking. We agreed to start with short, gentle walks.
3. Importance of Hydration
We also discussed the importance of staying well-hydrated throughout the day. To help with this, I recommended carrying a water bottle with you and setting reminders to drink water regularly. Include any important recommendations or things to monitor at home. Aim for 8 glasses of water daily.
Next Steps:
Collect the educational pamphlets on healthy eating and exercise from the reception desk. Try to incorporate the recommended dietary changes and begin with a 15-minute walk daily. We will review your progress at your follow-up appointment in four weeks.
