Operation Note

Specialty: Orthopaedic Surgeon Procedure: - Right total knee arthroplasty performed under general anaesthesia. - A 15 cm anterior longitudinal incision was made, followed by dissection through subcutaneous tissue and fascia. - The quadriceps tendon was retracted laterally to expose the knee joint. - Distal femoral and proximal tibial resections were carried out using patient-specific instrumentation. - Trial components were inserted to confirm appropriate alignment, stability, and range of motion. - Cemented femoral, tibial, and patellar components were then implanted. Closure: - The joint capsule was closed with interrupted 2-0 Vicryl sutures. - Subcutaneous tissue was reapproximated with interrupted 3-0 Vicryl sutures. - The skin was closed with a continuous subcuticular 4-0 Monocryl suture. - Steri-Strips and a sterile dressing were applied. Post-op instructions: - Weight-bearing as tolerated with the aid of crutches/walker. - Continuous passive motion (CPM) machine to be used for 4 hours daily. - Commence physiotherapy mobilisation exercises the day after surgery. - Administer oral analgesia (Paracetamol and Ibuprofen) as prescribed for pain management. - Keep the wound dressing clean and dry for 7 days. Avoid immersing the wound in water. - Follow-up appointment scheduled for 2 weeks post-operatively for wound check and staple removal (if applicable).
