Emergency care teams at Cambridge Memorial Hospital gain more time for patient care with Heidi trial
July 15, 2025 – Cambridge, ON — Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) has been running a pilot of Heidi, an ambient AI medical scribe, in its Emergency Department, marking a significant step in the hospital’s commitment to modernizing care through responsible, patient-centered technology.
Over the past several months, Heidi has been working alongside clinicians in the Emergency Department of CMH to capture real-time clinical documentation during patient visits. The goal is simple: give clinicians more time to focus on their patients while reducing the burden of note-taking.
In a recent conversation with CMH, clinical staff have already highlighted two early benefits. First, improved patient–clinician connection. With less time spent on keyboards and screens, providers can engage more directly with the people they’re caring for. Second, smoother workflows. By automating documentation, Heidi has helped reduce administrative load during high-demand shifts in the emergency department.
“Heidi AI acts like a helpful assistant that listens and writes down what is discussed during your visit… It enables care providers to spend more time engaging directly with patients,” said a CMH spokesperson.
The pilot supports CMH’s broader strategy to use artificial intelligence and machine learning in thoughtful, impactful ways. Results from the Emergency Department trial will be carefully evaluated to scale out to other areas of care across the hospital.
“It’s about making practice more human again, taking [doctors] away from the keyboards, away from these things that ruin your relationship with the patient. We are dedicated to working closely with the team at CMH to drive the impact on a large scale, for both the clinicians and patients alike.” - Dr. Thomas Kelly, CEO and Co-Founder of Heidi Health
The impact of this technology reaches across the care team:
- For patients: more present, focused attention from their providers.
- For clinicians: accurate, timely notes - without distraction.
