Welcome to Progress Notes, our monthly check-up on everything new in Heidi. In August, we made it easier to start your day prepared: preview files before a session and find any session in seconds.
Find sessions faster, collaborate seamlessly
The updated session list makes it easier to find, filter and act on your sessions. Assistants and admins can now view every session across the team in one place, with custom views, smarter sorting and a full-page table for faster navigation.

Check files ahead of sessions
Files uploaded to a session's Context tab now preview in place, so you can check a referral or result without leaving Heidi.
Start a session click Context, attach your selected document, and click on it to preview.
Available on Web and Desktop.
Quality of life improvements
- Heidi Web and Desktop now have an inactivity timeout, matching the mobile apps, for extra account security.
- Delete a transcript and its session independently, giving you finer control over what stays and what goes.
- Evidence answers now end with key safety notes, so the guidance you rely on always carries its caveats.
- As an Evidence chat nears its size limit, Heidi warns you, then blocks further input and offers to continue in a new chat that carries your recent context across.
- Set how long transcripts are kept before automatic deletion, independent of your session retention settings.
- Canadian clinicians can now access HealthPathways Canada directly in Evidence, alongside the rest of your clinical sources.
Bug fixes
- The template picker now reopens automatically if a team-template access error interrupts note generation.
- Deleted sessions that fail to delete now reappear in the list with a clear, localised message.
- Audio level bars now use far less CPU and GPU while recording.
- Pasting from external code editors now lands as parsed markdown instead of a code block.
Desktop
Download the latest version of the desktop.
Feature updates:
- A session timer now appears during active Heidi sessions
- Ask Heidi now includes Library search, guided shortcuts, and personalised Sources.
- Assign a clinical task to a team, open any task via direct link, and manage notifications from account settings, now merged into one place.
- Drag and drop your schedule directly onto the session list, and see a collaborator's cursor position in shared sessions.
Bug fixes:
- Sessions now reconcile correctly after a failed audio upload, with uploads bounded by a timeout and automatic retries.
- The widget microphone selection is now preserved between sessions.
- Deleting offline recordings is now more reliable, and the session footer explains itself instead of disabling silently when you're offline.
- Heidi Desktop now opens noticeably faster, with panels and dialogs loading on demand.
Mobile iOS and Android
iOS new features:
- Evidence answers on mobile now lead with key points for a faster read.
- A refreshed front page and updated icon styling throughout the app.
Fixes:
- Recording on iOS 17 now captures and uploads audio correctly, fixing a 3.10.0 regression that could leave sessions with no audio and no note.
- Your Pro Scribe or Best selection is now retained after regenerating a note.
- Templates now appear correctly in the session detail picker instead of showing blank.
- Standalone sessions now show their notes alongside the transcript.
- Merging sessions no longer triggers a "Could not load note" error, and the patient selector no longer crashes in session detail.
- Arabic translations are now complete throughout Settings.
Android new features:
- Resume a dictation session while offline: recording continues uninterrupted and uploads automatically once you reconnect.
- Heidi Remote firmware updates are now blocked while unsynced recordings remain on the device, so audio that hasn't uploaded yet is protected.
- Session Merge suggested patients now show date of birth, and you can link a patient created from the full form.
- Signing up in a non-English language now sets your display language correctly from the start.
Bug Fixes
- Note generation failures are now shown clearly instead of a spinner that never ends, and successful background generation no longer leaves a stray error icon in the session list.
- The template picker now shows a clear error and retry option when template sync fails, and template sync retries before failing on a missing default template.
- Evidence chats now open reliably again after a data type mismatch was fixed.
- The recording timer keeps updating after pausing and resuming from the mini player, and your session type is retained when starting a new session.
- Your Pro Scribe or Best selection is now retained after regenerating a note.
- Pull-to-refresh now refreshes session details on sessions that have documents.
- Heidi Remote no longer gets stuck in a connect-and-disconnect loop after a hardware reset, and live Bluetooth audio no longer doubles up.
- The inactivity PIN lock is now enforced consistently on warm resume and cold start.
- Heidi Remote recordings are now verified before deletion from the device, protecting against data loss during transfer.
Remote
New features and fixes:
V4.6.4:
- Recordings no longer come through silently empty, and a failed start is now reported instead of hidden.
- Sync no longer gets stuck retrying empty files or freezing over a weak Bluetooth connection.
- Less audio is at risk if the device crashes mid-recording.
- Low-battery shutdown is now more accurate, with no more premature "fully charged" readings.
- Very long recordings now stop cleanly at the five-hour cap, with a clear explanation in the app.
Offline Recording for Heidi Remote continues rolling out. Session lists load while disconnected, sync status badges show what's uploaded and what's pending, offline capture uses your chosen microphone, and Start/Resume explains itself when it's unavailable offline.
How to update your Remote
- Connect your Remote to the mobile or desktop app over Bluetooth.
- When the update prompt appears, follow it to install. To update later instead, open your Remote settings in the app and follow the prompts when you're ready.
