Phimosis (pathological - circumcision) template

Dear Dr. Thomas Kelly, Thank you for referring Johnny Smith, a 7-year-old male, for evaluation of phimosis. Johnny has been diagnosed with pathological phimosis, and after careful consideration, we have decided that circumcision is the most appropriate treatment. On physical examination, Johnny's foreskin was noted to be non-retractable with significant scarring and narrowing at the preputial opening. There were no signs of infection or inflammation. We discussed the necessity of circumcision, highlighting its benefits such as preventing recurrent infections and potential future complications. The procedure will be performed as a day procedure under general anaesthetic, with local anaesthetic used to numb the shaft. The foreskin will be surgically removed, and dissolvable sutures will be used, which will fall away in a few weeks. The dressing can fall away over the first 24 hours, and paraffin oil will be provided to help with itchiness. Post-operatively, Johnny can start bathing the day after the operation, return to school after 5-7 days, resume swimming after 1 week, and participate in sports after 2 weeks.
