Dear Ms. Eleanor Vance,

Treatment Plan:

Dear Ms. Eleanor Vance,
Thank you for coming to see me today. This letter is a summary of our discussion and the plan we agreed upon.
Today, we talked about your recent mammogram and biopsy results, which confirmed a diagnosis of invasive ductal carcinoma in your left breast. We discussed your symptoms, which include a palpable lump in your left breast and occasional tenderness. We also reviewed your family history of breast cancer.
During our conversation, we discussed the following points:
We went over the biopsy report confirming invasive ductal carcinoma, which is a common type of breast cancer. We explored the different treatment options available, specifically focusing on surgery (lumpectomy vs. mastectomy), radiation therapy, and hormone therapy. We clarified that a lumpectomy, which removes only the cancerous tissue and a small margin of healthy tissue, is a suitable option for you given the tumour size and characteristics. We also discussed the importance of a sentinel lymph node biopsy to check if the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes. We reviewed potential side effects of surgery and other treatments, as well as the importance of post-operative care and rehabilitation. You had several questions regarding the recovery period and the timeline for subsequent treatments, which we addressed in detail.
Next steps:
Your surgery, a lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy, is scheduled for 15 November 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital. Please ensure you follow the pre-operative instructions provided by the hospital, including fasting requirements. You will receive a prescription for pain relief (Paracetamol 500mg, 2 tablets every 6 hours as needed) to be filled before your surgery. We will arrange referrals to an oncologist and a radiation oncologist for your follow-up treatments. A post-operative follow-up appointment with me will be scheduled for 29 November 2024 to discuss the pathology results and further treatment planning. Please ensure you have someone available to drive you home after surgery and to assist you during the initial recovery period.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the clinic.
Sincerely,
Dr. Anya Sharma
