Weight height BMI Weight: 110kg, Height: 1.75m, BMI: 35.9 Qualifies for treatment on BMI (yes/no): yes Other weight related co morbidities: Hypertension, Hyperlipidaemia Relevant past medical history: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, diagnosed 2018; Hypertension, diagnosed 2020; Hyperlipidaemia, diagnosed 2021. Drug history: Metformin 1000mg twice daily, Lisinopril 20mg daily, Atorvastatin 40mg daily. Absolute contraindications: History of medullary thyroid carcinoma. Mechanism of action of GLP-1 agonists: GLP-1 agonists mimic the action of the naturally occurring incretin hormone GLP-1. They stimulate insulin secretion, suppress glucagon secretion, slow gastric emptying, and promote satiety. Appetite suppressant receptor locations actions on the body: GLP-1 receptors are located in the brain, particularly in areas involved in appetite regulation. Activation of these receptors leads to reduced appetite and increased feelings of fullness. Risks and side effects of GLP-1 agonists: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation. Less common side effects include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems. Safely taking GLP-1 agonists: Patients should be educated on proper injection technique, potential side effects, and the importance of monitoring blood glucose levels. They should also be advised to report any severe or persistent side effects to their healthcare provider. Review structure and plan: Discussed the benefits and risks of Mounjaro. Patient understands the treatment plan and is willing to proceed. Prescribed Mounjaro 2.5mg weekly, to be increased to 5mg after 4 weeks if tolerated.
